The Head Shot Clinic

I came up with this idea to answer a few inquiries about my head shot work. I love shooting head shots, specially of actors and performers. I have done quite a few during my time in Hong Kong as a full time performer, I would be asked by my colleagues if I can shoot there head shot. I am proud to say that my head shots was seen by different casting directors and directors from different cities around the world! For us in the entertainment field, head shots are our passport to jobs and projects. Most of the time, it's probably the first thing casting directors would see. A good head shot is a great investment in the entertainment world. But a good one can be costly. As freelance artists, we don't really know where the next cheque is coming from or when the next project will be. So I came up with this head shot clinic for a much lower and affordable package.

The head shot clinic is about collaboration between you as the sitter and the photographer. The whole session is about discovering what "look" works best for your purpose. Be it for submission to casting directors or for just plain "profile picture", we will work on finding your best "side" for pictures and come up with an engaging photograph of you.

The first few minutes of the session is dedicated for consultation. This is for us to discuss what your needs are. I also suggest that you bring some of your previous head shots and discuss how we can improve it.  You will then be directed to the set and start to have your head shot photographed. You will have several opportunities to filter down your shots on the studio monitor. After you've made your final choices, the photos will cleaned, cropped and printed and will be delivered to you after 2-3 days. Make sure you provide your mailing address. The low res files will be emailed to you a few hours or a day after the session ready for use. So, make sure to provide you email address too.

Please come to the studio already made up and ready to be photographed. Ladies' please put on a nice "daytime" make up. Men, please bring some face powder. Stray hair and a some skin "problems" can easily be cloned out in photoshop, shiny skin can be real problem. For the wardrobe, any plain colored tops is best, neutral colored ones are, in my opinion, the best ones for the asian skin. Have a few choices ready. We will do at least 2 changes during the session. Also, for the guys who grow decent scruff or feel you can market yourself in that direction, you can come in with some growth and we'll shoot until we feel we've gotten it covered and then you can shave, so bring your razor, etc.

One more thing, bring your iPod or music player with a playlist of your favorite music. It's about making you feel relaxed and comfortable in front of the camera and your favorite music can definitely be a big help.

See you at the clinic!
